The Productive Desk is the trading name of professional organiser and project manager Mark Shayle.

Drawing on decades of experience in the high pressure-world of show business and corporate events, I provide, in a no-nonsense, outcome-orientated style, practical solutions to help you get on top of your workload. At your work place I can show you how to be on your game, focussing on the commitments you must deliver on, in a way that will help you de-stress and be better able to concentrate on more creative and fun areas of your life.

My methods are easy to learn, drawing on common sense, and developed over my working career as someone who delivers on deadlines, on budgets and on time.

Between 1985 and 1995 I was a Stage Manager and Production Manager in many theatrical environments, from repertory to small scale touring; working on shows like Miss Saigon and Me and My Girl in the West End; Tour Managing the Kirov Ballet and Moscow Classical Ballet throughout the UK; Stage Managing the UK tour of Oklahoma!; and too many fringe shows to list! It was in this arena that I learnt how to meet the deadline of the “First Night” and discovered an aptitude ( and a passion) for personal organisation and planning.

In 1995 I joined Apollo Leisure as a Production Manager, and rapidly honed my skills in the delivery of budget and time-sensitive projects.

I traded as a freelance Production Manager under the banner Ideal Production Services between 1997 and 2001, working in both the corporate and theatrical sectors.

Between 2001 and 2005 I headed up the Stage Management and Technical Theatre Course at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, one of the most renowned training programmes of its kind. Helping students organise their time, focus their energy, and become more able to take control of their projects, proved a valuable arena in the development of the techniques I employ under the banner of The Productive Desk.

In 2005 I returned to freelancing primarily undertaking project-based work in and around Sussex. As well as providing coaching to freelancers, employees and employers, I combine this with occasional Stage Management lecturing and seminar work. Currently I’m the freelance General Manager for Paddock Productions, based in Lewes.
